MAKE A DIFFERENCE

At Bluegrass, we value the commitment to make a difference in the lives of those around the corner and around the globe. We are called to spread the Good News to all people, and we want that to be the foundation of our every word and action.

As you learn more and more how God works, you will learn more about your work.(Colossians 1:10)

The Big Give

Each month we will be giving to an opportunity in our community or around the world. The Big Give for the month of September is the Nannie Berry Backpack program:

The Backpack Program

Nannie Berry Elementary

The BackPack Program is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, such as weekends and school vacations. In addition to providing nutritious food to school children in need, some BackPack Programs provide extra food for younger siblings at home and others operate during the summer months when children are out of school and have limited access to free or reduced-priced meals. Here is how the program works:

· Backpacks filled with food that children take home on weekends.

· Food is child-friendly, nonperishable and easily consumed.

· Backpacks are discreetly distributed to children on the last day before the weekend or holiday vacation.

Items currently needed:

Gallon sized Ziplock bags: Quality is important here because it does hold a lot of food.

Peanut butter crackers
: This is the easiest thing we can think of to fill a void at this time.

Individual vegetable servings
: Wal-Mart has plastic cups of green beans and carrots, perfect for what we are doing. There are also individual serving sized cans.

Plastic spoons and forks
: We don't expect them to eat with their hands, and cannot assume they have untensils at home.

OUR GOAL IS 50 OF EACH ITEM EACH WEEK. This is an ONGOING program. The children need these food items every week.

We will have a designated drop off box for you to drop your items off. These items will be picked up each Wednesday night. They will be packed on Thursdays at Nannie Berry Elementary.
